Do you think it's okay for a 17 year old to watch her stepmom , who she is close to, give birth?

Me and my step mom are really close, we can talk to each other about anything and everything. She is 29 weeks pregnant and I really would love to be in the room when she has my first brother, her first child. I want to ask her if I can be in the room when she has him but I don't want her to feel obligated to say yes- it's hard for her to say no- should I wait for her to ask me , which I don't know if she will, or should I just ask her myself? How should I go about asking her? Any suggestions would help me a ton! Thanks :)
