Best year for a Subaru 4x4 wagon?

I was wondering what the year Subaru made the best 4wd wagon? I used to own a 1984 Brat with the timing chain and 4wd shifter.It was small but went almost anywhere. Are the new wagons dependable?I hear they have issues with the motors.
