Fabric stores in chicago with great selections and free swatching?

i need to do some swatching for my application design portfolio and ive been to mood where the swatching is always free, but i actually live in IL, joanns makes u pay for 1/8 of the yard, and the vogue fabrics in evanston did not seem very friendly.. and suggestions/hidden treasures found in downtown chicago? (aka easily accessible by walking/cta)
